Frequently Asked Questions

How does Crisis Mode work?
When a panic attack hits, open Crisis Mode from the app or your Apple Watch. Nora guides you through a breathing protocol in real time while you log your symptoms. Once the episode passes, you can review what happened and track how your body responded.
Are my breathing exercises saved to Apple Health?
Yes, every breathing session you complete with Nora is automatically processed and saved as "Mindful Minutes" in the Apple Health app.
Is my data private and secure?
Yes, and here is the honest version. Your logs are synced privately via iCloud (CloudKit) under your own Apple ID, and only you can read them. Your scores, patterns, correlations, and daily insights are computed on your device. The Weekly Analysis and the meditation insight are the exception: they are generated in the cloud from a condensed summary of your week. We do not sell your data, never use it for advertising or model training, and your safety plan never leaves your device at all. See our Privacy Policy for the field-by-field detail.
Can I share my data with my doctor?
Yes. Nora can generate professional PDF reports covering your HRV, sleep, and symptoms, which you can easily email to your therapist or physician.
How do AI Insights work?
Nora's rule-based engine analyzes your symptom history, HRV data, and mood entries to detect patterns, for example, whether your symptoms correlate with low HRV days or specific triggers. On iOS 18.1+ with Apple Intelligence enabled, insight text is further refined on-device.
Does Nora work without an Apple Watch?
Yes. Nora works fully on iPhone. Apple Watch extends the experience with quicker symptom logging and automatic check-ins, but all core features including HRV tracking are available without it.
How does Nora read my HRV data?
Nora reads Heart Rate Variability data directly from Apple Health. You can grant or revoke this permission at any time in Settings → Privacy → Health → Nora. No data is sent to external servers, all analysis happens on-device.
How do I delete my data?
Open Nora → Settings → Delete All Data. This removes every local and iCloud record, including your safety plan, the people you tagged, and your medication history, and it cannot be undone. If you want to keep a copy, export a backup first from Settings → Your Data → Export & Restore. Health data in Apple Health is managed separately through the Health app.
How do medication reminders work?
Add your medications with their schedule and Nora sends a reminder at each dose time. You can mark a dose as taken or skipped right from the notification, without opening the app. Nora tracks your adherence over time and can overlay medication changes on your mood and sleep. Your medication data stays private and is never included in any anonymized community data.
Where is my Safety Plan stored?
Your Safety Plan is the most sensitive data in Nora, so it is stored on your device only and never synced to the cloud. It works fully offline and is reachable in two taps or with a Siri shortcut, so it's there the moment you need it.
How do I back up or move my data to a new phone?
Open Nora → Settings → Your Data → Export & Restore. "Backup file" writes a single file Nora can read back later; "Backup and spreadsheets" adds a spreadsheet per section for your own analysis. Keep the "include people, medication and safety plan" switch on if you want a backup you can actually restore from. On the new phone, open the same screen, choose Restore, pick the file, and confirm. Nora shows how many records it found before writing anything, and matching records are replaced rather than duplicated. Your screens fill back in the moment the restore finishes, with no relaunch needed. The exported file is not encrypted, so keep it somewhere you trust.
Can I lock Nora behind Face ID?
Yes. Settings → Privacy → App Lock asks for Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode before Nora opens. "Lock after" decides whether it locks the moment you leave the app or after 1 or 5 minutes, so quickly checking a message does not mean unlocking again. The row is unavailable if your device has no passcode set, since there would be nothing to check against. Crisis support stays reachable from the lock screen on purpose.
Do my mood check-ins show up in Apple Health?
Yes, while "Sync mood with Apple Health" is on in Settings → Your Data. Each daily check-in is saved as a State of Mind entry, and moods you log on Apple Watch or in the Health app are read back into Nora for the days you left empty. A day you already checked in on is never overwritten, because a Nora check-in carries lifestyle factors and people that a bare Health score does not. Only the mood value is written, never your notes.
Is the Weekly Analysis processed on my device?
No, and this is the one place where Nora is not on-device. Your daily insights, scores, patterns and correlations are all computed locally, but the Weekly Analysis and the insight that closes a meditation are written by a large language model that runs in the cloud. What is sent is a condensed summary of your week plus a few short excerpts from notes you wrote; what is never sent is your safety plan, your people, your medications, your cycle entries, or your raw Apple Health readings. Every result is labelled "AI generated" in the app, and it is not therapy or a diagnosis. Our Privacy Policy lists field by field what leaves the device.
Why did Nora send me a check-in reminder?
That is the early-warning check-in reaching you when you are not in the app. If your recent days have drifted below your own usual and you have not opened Nora since, one quiet reminder can arrive the next day. There is only ever one waiting, it is withdrawn as soon as the drift passes or you tap "Not now", and it deliberately says nothing about what Nora found, so a glance at your lock screen gives nothing away. Nora never asks for notification permission for this on its own either: if you have not granted it, no reminder is sent. To change how readily it speaks up, or to switch it off entirely, go to Settings → Wellbeing → Early warning.
How do I send feedback or report a problem?
Open Settings and tap Leave Nora a note. Choose whether it is an idea, a problem, or a thank you, write what happened, and add your email only if you want a reply. Along with the note we receive the app version, your iOS version, and the language the app was showing, which is usually what makes a report actionable. Nothing else is sent: your entries, journal, mood, medications, people, and safety plan never leave your device. Notes are read by a person rather than answered instantly, so it is not a way to reach anyone in a crisis. If you are in a hard moment, the same screen opens your Safety Plan.
Can I keep track of what my therapist asked me to do?
Yes. Go to Settings → Therapist / Doctor → My Appointments and tap a session that has already happened. The session note has a "Homework from this session" section: add what you agreed to try, one line each, and tick them off as you go. A ticked box is saved the moment you tap it, so nothing is lost if you swipe the sheet away. Anything still open appears at the top of your appointments screen under "Open until your next session", so you see it without going looking. There are no due dates and nothing nags you: an item waits there until you tick it or remove it. If you move a past session to a future date, its homework steps aside until that date arrives, and deleting a session removes its homework with it.
Why does Nora ask how I feel after a breathing exercise?
Because noticing whether something helped is most of the value of doing it. When the pattern finishes, Nora asks whether you are better, about the same, or worse than when you started. It is one tap, "Not now" skips it, and answering "Worse" costs you nothing: some days a technique does not land, and that is worth recording too. If you arrived from a nervous system or anger check-in, the state you started from is kept next to your answer. Your answer is stored with that session, in the same private iCloud database as the rest of your logs, and it is never sent to us.
